Week Beginning 16/10/17

This week we have been:

  • Thinking of adjectives to describe fire and London city in 1666.
  • Reading extracts from Samuel Pepys diary.
  • Creating Rangoli patterns.
  • Learning the story of Rama and Sita.
  • Writing about the festival of Diwali.
  • Working out doubles and adding near doubles.

*Tuesday 24th of October we will be celebrating Halloween in school. We are inviting children to come to school dressed in a Halloween costume.

Week Beginning 09/10/17

This week we have been:

  • Making fire engines in the park using different materials.
  • Writing our recount using time connectives first, next, then and finally.
  • Recognising the value of coins.
  • Paying for items using the correct amount of coins.
  • Listening to the music “fire dance” and creating a dance with their partners.
  • Solving maths problems using different resources to help us.

  • Present our “me box” to the class and answer questions.
  • Act out the great fire of London in the park.
  • Learning to take away by counting on.
  • Writing questions to ask the fire fighters during our trips.
  • Enjoying our trip to the fire station.
  • Using our senses to explain what you could see, hear smell and touch during the Great Fire of London.

  • Creating a time line of the Great Fire of London.
  • Solving a problem to help the King to make his magic carpet fly.

MacMillan Coffee Morning

We will be holding a coffee morning to raise funds for this charity between 10.45- 11.45 am on Friday 29th September. Mrs Nicklin would love to get to know you over a coffee and cake so please come along and meet our new Headteacher.

Week Beginning 19/06/17

This week we have been:

  • Compare the temperature in Africa and Wales.
  • Making maps from our journey sticks in the park.
  • Subtracting by counting on to find the difference.
  • Listening to Mrs Warwick about her time in Africa.
  • Reading an information text and writing what we found out in our own words.
  • Practising races for sports day.
This week’s LNF skills:
  • Show understanding of what they have heard by asking relevant questions to find out specific information.
  • Identify information from a text accurately, and sort into categorise or headings.
  • Explain relevant details from texts.
  • Use different types of writing appropriate to purpose and reader.
  • Select appropriate equipment & resources.
  • Find small differences within 20 by using ‘counting on’ strategies.
  • Use mental recall of number facts to 10 and place value to add or subtract larger numbers e.g. 24 + 4, 30 + 5, 34 + 10.

  • Work out the steps needed to solve a place value problem.
  • Learn the features of an advert.
  • Make an advert about a toy and present it in front of an audience.
  • Match pictures to map symbols.
  • Find sheep on a map and write their co-ordinates.
  • Label a map of Great Britain.
  • Learn to play competitive games.

  • Extend their ideas or accounts by sequencing what they say and including relevant details.
  • Speak clearly to a range of audiences.
  • Adopt a specific role, using appropriate language in structured situations.
  • Identify steps to complete the task or reach a solution.
  • Count sets of objects by grouping in 2s, 5s &or 10s.
  • Read & write numbers to 100.
  • Compare & order 2-digit numbers.

Week Beginning 22/5/17

This week we have been:

  • Sorting our areas for our topic.
  • Designing a fence ready for Action Earth Day.
  • Observing Swansea landmarks in the park and discuss if they were man-made or natural.
  • Enjoying our trip around Swansea.
  • Writing a recount about our trip around Swansea
  • Working hard in our school yard for Action Earth Day.
This week’s LNF skills:

Understand and use language appropriate to writing

Use simple subject-related words appropriately

Use ordering words, e.g. first, next, then, lastly

Use standard forms of verbs, e.g. see/ saw, go/went, and subject verb agreement e.g. I was, we were.

Follow a structure in their writing with support, e.g. reports, lists.

  • Form upper- and lower-case letters accurately and with consistent size.
  • Use everyday & mathematical language to talk about their own ideas and choices.
  • Recall & use 2,5 and 10 multiplication tables
  • Use checking strategies:
  • – repeat addition in a different order
