Flying Start childcare settings provide FREE quality childcare for children from 2-3 years of age who live in an identified Flying Start catchment area.

At Waun Wen Primary School, we have qualified childcare workers who will provide 2.5 hours of care and education each day, 5 days per week, for 42 weeks per year, for all eligible children.

The ultimate aim of the childcare provision is to improve a child’s outcomes in preparation for school.  This will be achieved through:

Active learning through play

·         Giving children time to experiment, investigate, discover and question within an environment that is stimulating and challenging

·         Children being recognised as individuals who have had a range of experiences prior to Flying Start, and are recognised as being at different stages of development

·         Experiences and activities planned using the child’s interests and stage of development as the starting point

·         Focussing on a child’s personal and social development, wellbeing and communication
